Globe with dry compass on a plinth

. Traditional globes without a compass were considered incomplete. The bronze and wood plinth showcases the globe and features a faithful reproduction of a 17th-century dry compass. Twelve paper meridian bands, delicately applied to the globe, are printed from the originals drawn by Gerard Kremer (Gerardus Mercator), the inventor of the Mercator projection, which was used from the 16th century until the mid-20th century.
