Adventure in South

America, January 1971, Mexico City, Teotihuacan, Pyramid of the Moon.

A young doctor, fresh out of medical school, foolishly allows himself to be tempted by a jadeite statuette, supposedly ancient. On his way down, he met a young Mexican man to whom he showed his expensive purchase; the latter pointed out a tourist shop situated at the foot of the pyramid. Deeply annoyed by his mistake, the young doctor swore – though a little too late – that he’d never be taken in like that again!

And he continued his journey southwards with his friends Bill and Harvey. Upon arriving in Peru to stay with friends of Bill’s parents, they stayed with them in Lima. On the first evening, the young doctor recounts his misadventure at the Pyramid of the Moon. Bill’s parents’ friends weren’t all that surprised, and to console the aggrieved young doctor, they presented him with a small Chimu perfume vase, unearthed from the archaeological excavations on their property.
The young doctor’s smile returned after he had warmly thanked his hosts.
