Aluminium
model of the “Ford Trimotor” aeroplane. Between 1926 and 1933, around 200 three-engined aircraft were built at the Ford factories. Corrugated metal and a thick monoplane wing were a German innovation, used in the Junker JU-52 on the Berlin–Rome–London route. These three-engined aircraft were purchased by airlines, oil companies and a select few. The Ford three-engine aircraft and the Junker JU-52 were the forerunners of the Douglas and Boeing generations, whose fleets were soon to criss-cross the globe.
